About Us
The Company
ALTEK is a technology-based company with specialist expertise and experience in the design, manufacture and installation of aluminum dross and scrap processing systems. Our engineers have, between them, over 200 years of international experience in developing and refining solutions to dross and scrap recycling. They are a unique skill resource for our worldwide customers.
ALTEK's engineers use advanced 3D design/modelling software to design, manufacture, and install:
- Dross press and cooling equipment (including TARDIS Dross Press and Cooling technology)
- Electromagnetic 'air cooled' stirring systems for all types and shapes of furnaces
- Specialized RHINO cast steel containers for handling aluminium drosses and salt cake
- Tilt Type Rotary Furnaces - TTRF®
- Furnace tending machines (under licence with Tomorrow Technology)
History
ALTEK was formed in the 1980s and they invented the dross press for aluminium dross in the early 1990s. In the following years they became a leader in TTRFs, with many international references. In 2003, ALTEK and MDY, both with specialist skills and worldwide experience in Tilt Type Rotary Furnaces and aluminium recycling technology with an international reputation in secondary aluminium plant supply, joined together and in 2004 and under new ownership and management became ALTEK-MDY. In 2009 this group acquired J M McIntyre (Machinery) Ltd., manufacturers of the TARDIS Dross Press and associated dross cooling technology, and began to consolidate and update the two different technologies. With this acquisition of TARDIS and the inclusion of the worldwide reference base of TARDIS, the company then had more than 400 references across the world and was able to provide technical support to owners of TARDIS presses - offering advanced upgrades, service and spares.
Mission Statement
To provide our customers with the best technology and knowledge to meet their needs through a deep understanding of their production processes, operation, equipment and operational cost and profitability requirements.
To treat our customers as partners and to take full responsibility for our equipment and its performance.
To use our process and engineering expertise and experience to move towards the goal of zero waste in dross handling.
Our aim is TOTAL DROSS MANAGEMENT solutions to the aluminium industry
Strategic Partners
ALTEK recognizes that one company cannot excel in all areas of expertise.
We are world leaders in the development, design, sales and installation of dross pressing systems and have recently acquired the J McIntyre TARDIS business. ALTEK are also world leaders in Tilting Type Rotary Furnaces (TTRF®), the most widely used and versatile equipment in the market for recycling aluminium dross and aluminium scraps.
We have formed strategic partnerships with other key companies throughout the world in order to enhance our expertise, to bring new products to our customers and to distribute our products around the globe.
These include MECHATHERM, who we partner with on the Tilt Type Rotary Furnace TTRF® product range.
Altek has 20 years of experience and over 50 global references in TTRF® and, along with MECHATHERM International's 30 years of worldwide turnkey aluminium casthouse and re-melt technology experience, we have created a partnership which is unequalled for this type of technology.
The combined reference list of the two companies in the Tilting Rotary Melting Furnaces (TRMF) field is unrivalled.
ALTEK has a licence agreement with TT Tomorrow Technology of Italy that allows TT to produce ALTEK dross presses for Italy, Greece, Egypt, Israel and Turkey and also allows ALTEK to produce their furnace tending machines in the USA.
To further build our strategy of being able to support and offer the very best total solutions to our customers in secondary aluminium dross processing and its waste management, we have also entered into a strategic alliance with ALREC LLC in the USA which provides ALTEK and its partners a facility for process and technology development, customer training, scrap and dross melting trials allowing customers to assess the actual perofmance and results they can expect from investing in our technology for dross and scrap melting. The ALREC facility is one of the most advanced operations of its kind in the USA with some very special process, automation and operational techniques to maximise the productivity and also recovery levels from scrap and dross processing.
In the area of metal circulation and furnace stirring technology, ALTEK have an global agreement with RPC-MHD for the supply of the MHD air cooled electromagnetic stirrer. The agreement is far more than only the technology for supplying such equipment (which has already been widely adopted by RUSAL cast houses over the past 15 years), as it allows access to the MHD development centre in Krasynarsk where, with powerful computers, very complex modelling can be undertaken on furnace bath dynamics - allowing us to optimise stirrer locations for maximised performance.
