Tardis travels to Serbia
Impol Seval Sevojno of Serbia are amongst the latest companies to purchase
a Tardis dross processing and cooling system from J.McIntyre Machinery Ltd
of Nottingham England. The machine was delivered in April 2003 and installed
in May. The Impol machine was one of six orders taken by McIntyre over the
space of only six weeks. The other machines are destined for companies in
Brasil, Hungary, Italy, Taiwan and Mexico and bring the number of Tardis
installations worldwide to more than 140.
Sales Director of McIntyre Machinery David Pownall said, “We are delighted by our run of recent orders, and particularly to have installed our first machine in Serbia. To be honest, we did have some difficulty persuading our commissioning engineer to travel to Serbia, but Impol Seval Sevojno looked after him so well, that we had difficulty getting him home again!”
Tardis is a hydraulic pressing system which aims to cool dross as quickly as possible. Rapid cooling prevents oxidation, which in turn means that overall metal recovery rates increase. Key to this fast cooling is the Tardis patented forced air cooling system, whereby a large volume of ambient air is drawn through the press head, cooling it to such a degree that dross temperatures are rapidly reduced. The cooled press head also allows Tardis to process all types and temperatures of dross, including aggressively thermiting material. In short, Tardis can convert a hot, thermiting material into an inert, cooled lump in a matter of minutes, with the entire process being carried out behind hydraulically controlled and interlocked, solid, doors to enhance operator safety.
For those companies with stringent environmental policies, Tardis is also able to minimise the dust and fume associated with dross by using a purpose-built ceramic filtration unit. This unit ensures complete compliance with all known environmental legislation.
A number of Tardis users have justified the purchase of their equipment purely on environmental and safety grounds, but Tardis’ greatest appeal has been the economic benefits it has brought to its users. Just about every Tardis installation has paid for itself in under 12 months, some units have generated their full value in as little as two months from start-up. This extra revenue comes initially from on-site metal recovery, which is the immediate metal drain. A second source of income then comes from an increase in the metal units available to the processor of the metal skull. And companies can segregate their dross into different alloy types, which in turn maximises dross values.
